I CAN SING! – MINIS
for children in Years 1 and 2, developing confidence and teamwork
The Minis prepares children in Year 1 & Year 2 for both music theatre and instrumental studies through a fun, structured 2-year programme, which offers the unique opportunity to develop all-round musicianship through vocal and movement stage performance sessions and group instrumental learning.
Working with a coaching team of Music Director and Accompanist, children are introduced to a range of vocal repertoire, encouraged to try solos and contribute ideas, and given a range of tools to develop their confidence and teamwork and musicality in a fun, community environment.
The Minis Sessions

Both year groups join together for a group vocal session learning songs from the music theatre cannon alongside movement and simple staging to build their team skills, focus and confidence leading to end of term showcases. Each year they join forces with the other I Can Sing! groups to perform a large-scale show created from the music theatre repertoire and/or HMDT Music’s own commissions.

Minis Year 1 begin their instrumental training with a 40 minute general musicianship session where they start to read musical notation and learn to play simple tunes using a xylophone as an accessible instrument to encourage musical learning.
Minis Year 2 continue to build their skills by trying out a selection of instruments in the Autumn term in Taster sessions, after which they choose which instrument they want to continue learning in the Spring and Summer terms in small 40 minute group sessions.
At the end of the year, they choose whether to continue with I Can Sing! or join CYMH Instrumental. If they join I Can Sing!, they can still continue their instrumental training with additional one-to-one lessons (subject to availability) and/or also choose a further additional instrument e.g. piano.

After the MINIS, students choose whether to join I Can Sing! – Music Theatre with or without additional instrumental lessons or CYMH Instrumental School
Enabling under 4s to explore basic rhythms and melodies and helps parents gain the confidence to experiment and enjoy music making with their children.
A one year Foundation Course for reception class children, an introduction to music through singing and movement, leading up to performances at the end of each term.
The Minis prepares Year 1 and Year 2 children for both music theatre and instrumental studies through a fun, structured 2-year programme.
Music Theatre School for students in Years 3 – 16 offering students the opportunity to experience the excitement of musical theatre training and performance.
HMDT’s Instrumental School offers students ages 5 upwards an extensive curriculum including group and individual instrumental tuition, singing, musicianship and ensembles
Offering talented young instrumentalists and vocalists an amazing opportunity to work with some of the world’s top jazz musicians
